1. Information We Collect
1.1 Location Data
GPS Area Calculator collects precise GPS location data from your device while you are actively using the measurement features of the app. Location data is used solely to calculate area, perimeter, and distance measurements. We do not collect location data in the background when the app is not in active use.
1.2 Device Information
We may collect non-personal technical information about your device, including device model, operating system version, app version, and unique device identifiers. This information helps us improve app performance and troubleshoot technical issues.
1.3 Usage Data
We collect anonymized data about how you interact with the app, such as features used, measurement frequency, and session duration. This data does not include any personally identifiable information and cannot be traced back to you individually.
1.4 Saved Measurements
Any measurements, notes, or labels you save within the app are stored locally on your device. We do not upload or transmit your saved measurement data to our servers unless you explicitly use a cloud sync or export feature.
2. How We Use Your Data
2.1 Core App Functionality
Your GPS location data is used exclusively to power the measurement features — calculating the area, perimeter, and distance of the regions you define. This processing happens on your device in real time.
2.2 App Improvement
Anonymized usage analytics help us understand which features are most valuable, identify crashes or performance issues, and prioritize future improvements. No personally identifiable information is used for this purpose.
2.3 Customer Support
If you contact us for support, we may use the information you provide (such as your email address and device details) to respond to your inquiry and resolve technical issues.
2.4 No Advertising Profiling
We do not sell your location data or personal information to advertisers. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles or target you with behaviorally personalized ads.
3. Location Permissions
3.1 Permission Request
GPS Area Calculator requests access to your device's precise location (GPS) when you first use the measurement feature. You will see a system permission prompt from iOS or Android explaining the type of access being requested before any location data is accessed.
3.2 "While Using the App" Access
We request location access only while the app is in the foreground and you are actively performing a measurement. We do not request or use "Always On" background location access unless it is explicitly required for a specific feature you have opted into.
3.3 Revoking Permissions
You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device's Settings app (Settings → Privacy → Location Services on iOS; Settings → Apps → GPS Area Calculator → Permissions on Android). Revoking location access will disable GPS measurement functionality but will not affect other app features.
3.4 No Location Storage on Servers
Your GPS coordinates used during measurement sessions are processed on-device and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers. If you save a measurement, the coordinates are stored only in your device's local storage.
4. Analytics
4.1 Analytics Tools
We use industry-standard analytics tools to collect anonymous, aggregated data about app usage. These tools may include Firebase Analytics (Google) or similar services. All data collected through analytics is anonymized and aggregated before processing.
4.2 Crash Reporting
We use crash reporting services to automatically detect and log app crashes. Crash reports may include device model, OS version, app version, and a stack trace of the crash. These reports do not include your location data or any personally identifiable information.
4.3 Opt-Out
You may opt out of analytics data collection through the app's Settings screen. On iOS, you can limit ad tracking and analytics sharing system-wide through Settings → Privacy → Tracking.
5. Third-Party Services
5.1 Map Providers
GPS Area Calculator uses OpenStreetMap (OSM) tiles and optional satellite imagery from third-party map providers to display the base map. When you load map tiles, your device makes requests to map tile servers which may log your IP address in accordance with their own privacy policies. We recommend reviewing the OpenStreetMap privacy policy at openstreetmap.org/privacy.
5.2 Google Play Services / Apple Services
On Android, the app may use Google Play Services for location accuracy improvements. On iOS, Apple's location services are used. These are governed by Google's and Apple's respective privacy policies.
5.3 No Data Selling
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party. Any third-party services we use are selected for their strong privacy practices and are only given access to data necessary for their specific function.
6. Data Security
6.1 Security Measures
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Locally stored data benefits from your device's built-in security mechanisms including disk encryption (when enabled).
6.2 Data Minimization
We follow a data minimization principle — we only collect data that is strictly necessary for the app to function and to improve the user experience. We do not collect data speculatively or for undefined future uses.
6.3 Breach Notification
In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify affected users in accordance with applicable law, including providing information about what data was affected and what steps we are taking.
7. Your Rights
7.1 Access & Portability
You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. Since most data is stored locally on your device, you typically have direct access to it at all times.
7.2 Deletion
You can delete all locally stored measurements and app data by clearing the app's data through your device settings, or by uninstalling the app. To request deletion of any server-side data we may hold, contact us at support@gpscalculator.app.
7.3 Correction
If you believe any personal information we hold about you is inaccurate, please contact us and we will correct it promptly.
7.4 GDPR & CCPA
Users in the European Union have rights under the GDPR including the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection. 7.5 Children's Privacy
GPS Area Calculator is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
